<div dir="ltr">Hi all,<br><br>Change of plans - to make things more predictable, the talk today will be the tutorial part only, and is intended for people who are not familiar with openMP (or only roughly familiar). I will use the famous llnl tutorial <a href="https://computing.llnl.gov/tutorials/openMP/">https://computing.llnl.gov/tutorials/openMP/</a> . Hence, we will probably have a shorter meeting today.<br>
<br>In two weeks time, we will have the discussion part, where openMP experts might enjoy sharing their experience as I share my own humble one.<br><br>Eli - thank you for the improvisation, would not have done it better myself.<br>

This meeting will be an introduction to OpenMP API, which is a preparation lecture for "openmp - from the developer's side", coming up next. If time allows (it never does, but anyhow) the beginning of the latter lecture will be delivered on this Monday as well.<br>

So what is OpenMP? Wikipedia says:<br>

The OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) is an application programming interface (API) that supports multi-platform shared memory multiprocessing programming in C, C++ and Fortran on many architectures, including Unix and Microsoft Windows platforms. It consists of a set of compiler directives, library routines, and environment variables that influence run-time behavior.<br>

Jointly defined by a group of major computer hardware and software vendors, OpenMP is a portable, scalable model that gives programmers a simple and flexible interface for developing parallel applications for platforms ranging from the desktop to the supercomputer.<br>

An application built with the hybrid model of parallel programming can run on a computer cluster using both OpenMP and Message Passing Interface (MPI).<br>
