I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but in the Gentoo system very easy
create cross-platform environment.
1) emerge -v crossdev
for example
2) crossdev -S armv7a-unknown-linux-gnueabi
and kernel compilation.
3) make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE="armv7a-unknown-linux-gnueabi-"
