Users, Groups and Permissions (some more)

 

File can be owned by one user only. Any member of the group which owns the file receives the permissions set for the group of the file as if they were his own.

 

A member of group cannot change ownership of a file, unless he is the owner.

 

Root can access and change permissions to all files on the system.

 

Changing ownership is done by 'chown <user> <file>'

Changing group for file is donw by 'chgrp <group name> <file>'

Changing permissions is done by 'chmod'.
